Just a quick visit here, to see how RAF Poltimore was doing. I’ve been driving up and down the M5 quite a bit recently (from which this place is visible) and noticed people having a look around and with it being quite some time since our last visit, I figured I’d go have a look myself. It was pretty disappointing to open the steel door to building 2 and be confronted with the acrid, and fairly fresh aroma of BBQ’d building. God damn, this place smelled so bad, and looked pretty messed up too. There used to be an old sofa obstructing the doorway in this building, which was obviously the target of the flamers, all that remained of it was a bunch of blackened wire and springs. I’ve got no idea why this came to me, apart from the fact that I’m paranoid, but it’s frightening to imagine being in the back of the building – with the main corridor being on fire. There’s only one door now (because the rear door looks as if it’s been welded shut by ‘Mister T’ himself) and this corridor leads to it, there are also no windows so it could be quite a deathtrap if you happened to be in the arse end of the building.

Building 1 is also a little more messed up than when I last saw it, the roof access hatch has been prized from its frame and sunlight now illuminates the ops room floor, which kinda eliminates some of the atmosphere during the day – one of the best parts about exploring this place for the first time, was prowling about with the torch in complete darkness. I know UncleEggMan wants to check this place out again, so another, final visit may be on the cards, that’s if there’s anything left by the time we get there.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS SITE IS NOW USED AS A PAINTBALL PARK.
